Brent Stewart, the founding attorney of Stewart Law Offices, was recently invited to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals’ yearly convention. This is an honor, as only a very limited number of guests are invited to attend the convention. Brent Stewart has a lifetime invitation. The convention was held June 25 – June 28, 2025.

This year’s convention topics included New and Notable Decisions from the Fourth Circuit and Transversing the Rugged Terrain of Cybersecurity. Brent commented that both topics were “extremely thought-provoking and informative, particularly in this time of such change in both areas.” The conference concluded with The Honorable Chief Justice Roberts of the United States Supreme Court. Brent said that this was particularly “exciting” given the drop in new case opinions the day before, including the one concerning birthright citizenship. He enjoyed learning about new case results, catching up with old friends, and making new connections.

Recent Supreme Court Rulings

Some of the recent Supreme Court of the United States rulings include:

  • The high court ruled that judges likely went too far when they blocked President Donald Trump’s changes to birthright citizenship policies and ordered lower courts to review their decisions within 30 days.
  • The justices upheld Texas’s age verification law for pornographic websites that requires users to verify their ages before accessing adult sexually explicit content.
  • The Supreme Court rejected a challenge that experts who recommended some of the services health insurance must cover, including cancer screenings, drugs that prevent HIV, cholesterol-lowering medication, and other preventative healthcare services, must be appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate, the latest challenge to Obamacare.
  • The Supreme Court ruled that Congress did not delegate too much authority to agencies when it created a program that subsidizes high-speed internet and phone service for low-income families.
