Can I Sue a Drunk Driver Who Is Facing Criminal Charges?

As Jenna W. Garraux explains in the video below, even if a drunk driver faces criminal punishment, his or her victims will have to file a civil lawsuit to recover the money they need to pay for hospital bills and funeral costs.

Recently, Anderson, South Carolina was struck with a tragedy when a drunk driver caused a wreck that left three people dead. According to WYFF, the victims of the DUI crash included a 17-year-old girl, a 20-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man. The alleged drunk driver involved is a 24-year-old assistant college baseball coach.

An officer with the Anderson Police Department said that the 24-year-old man was attempting to take a curve at over 70 miles per hour leading up to the wreck, which occurred just after midnight on a Saturday. The collision happened at the intersection of US Highway 29 and East Calhoun Street. According to authorities, the 24-year-old driver’s vehicle crossed the centerline and hit the victims’ car.
