Pedestrian Killed in Laurens County Car Wreck

Even though pedestrians usually have the right of way, that fact alone does not prevent them from being hit by motor vehicles. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2012, there were 76,000 pedestrians injured in crashes with motor vehicles.

In situations where drivers are at fault for pedestrian accidents, it is particularly tragic, because through no fault of his or her own, a pedestrian could suffer a life-altering injury, such as paralysis or a traumatic brain injury (TBI), or even lose his or her life.

Recently, WYFF NBC 4 reported on a local man who lost his life in a pedestrian accident. The wreck happened at about 9:35 p.m. on June 28 in Laurens County. The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) stated that the man, 73, was walking back home from a friend’s house along US-76 when he was struck.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the 73 year old was a 31-year-old woman. She was not injured in the crash. The 73 year old suffered blunt force trauma in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

SCHP was still investigating the incident at the time of this report.
