Hit and Run—Man Assaulted Over a Moped

A Williamston man was arrested for a hit-and-run incident on April 27th. He is accused of running down the victim on Highway 29 when the victim refused to sell the hit-and-run driver his moped. After the alleged incident, the suspect drove away in his Honda Accord. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office will be charging him with attempted murder, and the victim is now recovering at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Luckily, no one was killed in this incident, but the story could have turned out differently. In 2013, South Carolina had 719 car crashes that caused one or more fatalities. How many of those were caused by aggressive driving?
It is estimated that aggressive drivers cause almost 66 percent of all traffic fatalities, and over a seven year period, there have been 12,610 injuries and 218 deaths due to this kind of driving behavior. Criminal penalties are stiff for road rage, but they do not address the day-to-day needs of families and survivors.
How Can a Lawyer Help After a Traffic Assault?
The victim in the April 27th incident is still in the hospital with injuries and minor abrasions. Where does a victim of hit-and-run assault get the money to pay for hospital bills and wages lost from missing work? The suspect may be liable for the medical bills and property damage, and only a civil suit can pursue this kind of restitution. The injury lawyers at Stewart Law Offices can help those hurt by the negligent acts of others.
Even if the suspect is prosecuted by the state, the victim is still entitled to restitution. If you or a loved one needs help paying for bills and property damage after a car accident, consult with Stewart Law Offices. Our consultations are free, and you can schedule yours over the phone or online.
